| Greetings Colleyville Heritage Pit Dads! |
|
Greetings! It’s about that time! You know when we get dressed up in our gray and black polo’s and black pants, haul hundreds of pounds of instruments a few hundred yards an evening during the sweltering Texas heat on a Friday evening and we do it all for free! Then we wake up at the crack of dawn on Saturday and do it all over again for a marching competition! And we do it for fun because it is fun! You get to watch the games from the sidelines, be front and center during every competition, and be there for when you child needs you the most...money for the concessions! Welcome everyone to the new CHHS Panther Marching Band season! We have several new people this year to the Pit Crew and we will get to greet them really soon as the marching season is just around the corner. Here is a refresher for the veterans, a preamble for all our newer members, and for those older dad’s that suffer from memory loss We are the CHHS Panther Band Pit Crew. Our responsibility is to help the band move equipment on and off the field during football games and where needed during marching competitions. We are a 100% volunteer organization and your time is never mandatory meaning you show up if you can and when you can whether it’s for an hour or two hours when we have a marching event. Throughout the football season the band will perform during half times for the crowd and to prepare for marching competitions. We will also be using this time to prepare for marching competitions. We will be preparing to learn multiple responsibilities such as where and when instruments or ladders go onto the playing field and within the pit area. We will also be setting up electronic equipment to boot. As far as show time schedule it is fairly easy. There are several opportunities for you to start helping so please show up when you can. We start on Friday’s at the band hall for initial trailer load and equipment inspection. We typically meet around 4:30pm and depart as soon as we can to our destination. Depending on the travel time we will then unload the trailer to ready for warm up and await the band to arrive. About half way through the second quarter of the football game we will start gathering on the field as a group where I will hand out or confirm assignments. Please if there is an area you like to do or can’t do because of any reason let me know at this time. We then will perform and move the equipment off. After the game we will do a full equipment load of the trailer and head back to the band hall where we will need your help again to unload. During competitions we will be doing the same duties and possibly several times during the competition day depending on how far the band makes it through the rounds…and we always make it to the next round so just count on it! The CHHS Panther Band Pit Crew is an all volunteer organization but we represent our band and our school at all times. The only thing I ask is that we represent them well when at the various events, thus we have a dress code. During football games we are in our Pit Crew polo shirts and black pants, black jeans or black shorts. The Pit Crew hat is optional as well as the t-shirt. Please comply with this and make us look like the best and most organized crew at every event. People have and do notice and it makes our band look that much better! Your kids have to comply with a dress code during the games so let’s show them our pride and respect and do the same. During the first few weeks we will be preparing name badges for everyone and this will become your entrance into the gates for football games. During marching competitions we may or may not have to pay to enter the stands. If you do not receive a name badge keep pestering me. Finally, this will be my last year heading up the pit crew. As with my predecessor, I would like to shadow the future pit crew coordinator during my final year next year. Thus I am looking for a replacement. Please watch this year and see the great responsibility and fun it is to lead such a great group of friends and represent the band. And if you have the desire to lead with some years left in the band program then approach me or the directors. Everyone, I welcome you to the pit crew or back again. This will be a fun and successful year because of your great kids and of course you! My contact info is as follows: Cell: 817-637-4429, Email: jus4su@tx.rr.comThank you for your time and help this year Mark Reynolds

Some quick guidelines Do not grab the timpani by the rim it will mess up its tuning! Do not throw or slide instrument cases on the trailer floor. Please have four dad’s before lifting a marimba. An instrument is never secure enough when in the trailer. Please dress in the Pit Dad polo with black pants during the game. Duct tape is your friend. Learn to spell Y.M.C.A with your arms Thou shall never wear a red chaperone shirt (and get away with it) Heckle all chaperones in a red shirt (even if it affects you after the game) More to come…. |
